The concept of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) has existed for some time. The basic concept is to utilize standard document sets to transfer data between parties using a known standard, thus allowing parties to interpret and utilize that data on various platforms. Although literally hundreds, if not thousands of document sets exist, only a handful are integrated into the Trans Plus TMS. The most common being Load Tenders (204), Load Status Updates (214) and Freight Billing. (210).
These document sets are transmitted electronically via the internet. When saved in Fleet Manager or Logistics Manager, the information (file) will travel from your network through a Gateway computer that is managed by Trans Plus. The Gateway computer conducts several validations before forwarding the data to your customer. Document sets that originate from the customer will travel through the same path in the reversed order.
The purpose of EDI is to save time and effort by eliminating the need to provide customer updates etc. through various web portals. EDI replaces that by taking the data already saved in Fleet Manager or Logistics Manager and sending it directly to the customer thus only requiring data entry in one location.
